See you in Aspen.
Places to See
Keep in mind some of the most breathtaking views aren’t accessible in the winter due to snow accumulation, so we’ve gathered a list of places that will be accessible in the winter months.
Wheeler Opera House
Constructed in the late 1800’s, this opera house still serves its true entertainment purpose by featuring plays, concerts and film screenings. Stop by to see a show or simply take in the beautiful Victorian architecture.
Aspen Art Museum
This contemporary museum is free to the public year-round and houses artists from all over the world. Take a guided tour of the museum or visit on a Sunday to enjoy their new cinema program.
John Denver Memorial
The singer-songwriter had such an impact on Aspen that the town decided to pay tribute by dedicating a memorial to him. While there is a beautiful butterfly garden surrounding the memorial, it will most likely be covered in snow when you visit. Don’t let that stop you from visiting though!
Things to Do
Check Out A Brewery Tour
Founded in 2008, the Aspen Brewing Company features a wide variety of craft beers paired with live music on select weekend nights. Take a tour of the brewery for $20 to learn about the history of the brewery and then relax in the tasting room.
Go Ice Skating
You’re never too old to go ice skating and Colorado is the place to do it! The Aspen Ice Garden is located in downtown Aspen and has been a huge part of Aspen’s history for the last 50 years. Bonus: skate rental is only $3!
Climb A Frozen Waterfall
Climbing is a huge recreational activity in Colorado during the warmer months, but it can also be enjoyed in the winter and you don’t need to have any experience! Aspen Expeditions will provide you with a certified guide to teach you important climbing techniques so you can try on your own!
Take A Snowshoe Tour
Embark on a 2-hour tour of Aspen Mountain with a naturalist guide and learn about mountain ecology, wildlife and history of the area. Your tour will include a gondola ride, snack, hot drink, snowshoes and of course beautiful scenery!
Ride the Silver Queen Gondola
Climb aboard this gondola that travels from the heart of downtown Aspen to the high summit of Aspen Mountain. At the top, you can check out the breathtaking view or grab some food at the eatery.
Go Skiing
Aspen hosts some of the most famous ski resorts so whether you’re a novice or a seasoned professional, you too can enjoy skiing in this winter wonderland. There are plenty of places where you can take lessons until you’re comfortable leaving the bunny slope!
Places to Eat
Nothing is better than a warm meal after spending the day in the snow. Colorado is no stranger to large portion sizes, so it’s best to come prepared to eat.
The White House Tavern
A more casual low-key vibe, this American style restaurant will leave your mouth watering permanently after you indulge in their chicken sandwich or burger with fries. Complete with an outdoor patio, this cozy little place will make you feel right at home.
Hickory House
You haven’t had BBQ until you’ve tried this local favorite. With good sized portions and plenty of combination options, you’ll find it’s hard to settle on just one selection. After a day of adventuring outdoors, this spot will warm your insides!
French Alpine Bistro
This small but intimate restaurant boasts more than just French flair. This charming spot features chocolate crepes, french onion soup and cheese fondue that will leave you feeling like you stepped into France for the night rather than Aspen.
Places to Drink
It may be cold out, but you can still enjoy a cold drink. Aspen is home to many craft beer selections as well as specialty drinks, so you’re bound to find something you like!
Red Onion
A historic treasure, this brick-walled tavern has been serving customers since 1892 and is known as the oldest bar in Aspen. Live music is offered select weekends and locals mention they have the best drink deals in town.
HOPS Culture
A new craft-beer focused restaurant in downtown Aspen that features over 200 craft beers and domestics. Check out this industrial gastropub for the vast selection of beer, but don’t leave without trying the pretzel bites!
J-Bar
This western bar located in Hotel Jerome will give you memories of the old west. Known as a “hot spot” in Aspen, you’ll find dozens of specialty cocktails and some interesting twists on traditional pub fare.
