Success: What it Means to the Women of Perform[cb]

March is Women’s History Month, a time to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to our history, culture and society.  Women have played an important role at Perform[cb] since it was founded in 2002, with over half our team comprised of powerful women. In the spirit of Women’s History Month, we thought it would be great to hear from some of our female teammates who are trailblazing a path for themselves, and future generations, in the corporate world.  

In this article we learn how Abby Campbell (Director of Partners), Erin Cigich (CEO), Ami DeWille (VP of Marketing), Audrey Eng (VP of Account Management), Julie Martin (VP of Product Development) and Cara Redding (EVP of Operations) have come to define success for themselves.

Q:  How do you define success?

Abby Campbell:  I define success by challenging myself to achieve personal and professional goals and not stopping until they’re met.  That doesn’t always mean things will go to plan, but knowing that you may have to adjust along the way and never giving up on what you’ve set forth for yourself is all part of success.

Ami DeWille:  The meaning of success has evolved throughout my life and career.  Years ago it meant getting the diploma, then that first promotion, and then the other promotions that followed.  But as I’ve become more mature in my career, it’s come to mean knowing that people trust me to do a good job, that my contribution is valued, and that I have positively impacted the careers and lives of others.

Julie Martin:  Personal Success is having an attitude of positivity, a feeling of fulfillment and being an inspiration to others. Goal Success, whether individual or as a team, is completion with cohesiveness and communication.

Cara Redding:  At the end of the day feeling like I did the best I could, gave it all I had that day and am ready to do it again tomorrow.

Q:  Please describe the personal and professional success you’ve achieved, and how you did so.

Erin Cigich:  Our team has grown to over 130 people in 3 offices across the globe in the past few years!  In the same time frame, I’ve become a mom of two strong, smart and bold girls. Balancing the dreams of our family and the goals of our team is something I am proud of every day.  The benefits package we have for our team – including paid parental leave, a dedicated pumping room, a welcome back package for new parents and a parent support group – are ways we are looking to support both women and men and to create a more equitable work environment.

Ami DeWille:  I’ve had the honor of working for some large household name brands throughout my career, but I am most proud of the recent corporate rebrand that took Clickbooth, Adperio and IgniteOPM and transformed them into one powerhouse performance marketing brand, Perform[cb].  This was a huge cross-functional effort, and I was able to leverage my past experience to help the team achieve our goal. I’ve also found a feeling of success by seeing members of my team stretch, grow and achieve their goals.

Audrey Eng:  I’ve grown within the company, from being an individual contributor when I first started, to now leading a team of Account Executives in our Denver office.  I have been able to grow both on a personal and professional level due to the culture at Perform[cb].  As a company, we embrace new ideas and out-of-the-box thinking.  When we face a challenge, we see it as an opportunity to find a way to better serve our teammates and clients.

Julie Martin: I’ve been very fortunate in my career at Perform[cb] to have been recognized for my contributions.  In my current role as VP of Product, I am largely responsible for facilitating the direction of our company through the new development of technical features in the platform that powers our business. Each new idea needs to be evaluated (by business), communicated (to tech) and presented (to all users of the platform).  It takes a tremendous amount of focus and flexibility, but ultimately has led to more cohesion between our internal teams and has allowed for our software to be the key competitive differentiator that has led Perform[cb] to be acquired by private equity and receive funding to grow through the acquisition of other companies. 

Q:  What are your words of advice to other women as they make their way in the world?

Abby Campbell:  Be confident in everything you do, take risks and ask for what you want. The saying, “You never know unless you ask” may be overused but it’s certainly true.  

Erin Cigich:  Never be afraid to speak up or ask a question, you have a unique perspective that the world is better for hearing.

Ami DeWille:  Whenever you feel that you’re going off course, always come back to center by trusting the unique qualities that only you, with your mix of personal and professional experience, can bring to the table.

Audrey Eng:  Ask hard questions. Empathize with others. Keep raising the bar.

Julie Martin: Go with your gut  — women’s intuition is a real thing! And don’t let anyone (including yourself) tell you that you can’t — YOU CAN!

Cara Redding:  Go into every situation with the goal to make it better and believe in yourself.
